Stephen Fasano

“Photography is simply the act of capturing the intersection of place with a moment in time”.  What you see on paper or canvas is exactly what happened in that place at that time.  Sometimes, as with an extremely short or long exposure, what was there may not have been visible to the naked eye...but it was there. Sometimes “the moment” was a thousandth of a second, but other times it might be thirty seconds, or longer.  Photographing that intersection requires many decisions, even when you’re in the “right place at the right time”.  That is where the photographer comes in.  Depth of field and exposure time, are two of the most critical decisions when capturing the image, but there are dozens that need to be made before pressing the shutter release.  In post-production, there are many  more choices that all play a vital role in the presentation of the final image.

Photography is not about creating, as much as it is about making choicee choice to be in that place at that time, with the proper equipment.  The choice to capture that moment in a certain way, the way the individual photographer has chosen.  The way that makes each image different.”
